Marc has spent the last 20 years studying the different methods and techniques of dog training. His quest for knowledge has taken him to study under the best trainers in America and Germany.
While living in Alaska at age 12, Marc’s interest in dog sports began when his mother bought him 6 sled dogs in hopes of one day running the Iditarod, a 1000 mile race on a sled pulled by a team of dogs across Alaska’s frozen wilderness, during the dead of winter. In 1988, Marc was hired by Frank Teasley, musher of the numerous Iditarod races in the late 80’s. As a handler on Teasley’s team, Marc helped prepare his dog team for the 1989 race, where Frank and his team of sled dogs would finish sixth. By 17, Marc had developed a natural talent and instinct reading a dog’s behavior, so he enrolled in West Virginia Canine College and received a Master Trainers Certificate specializing in Animal Psychology. Marc is a recent graduate of Trinity College of Natural Health with a Doctorate of Naturopathy which he uses to educate the public about alternative treatments and proper nutrition for themselves and their pets.
You could say that competing is in his blood, by age 28 Marc, was considering retirement after titling 47 dogs in Retriever Field Trials and Hunt Tests and competing in 4 back- to –back Nationals events. Now 5 years older and still training Marc is now considered to be one of the most accomplished trainers in America. He has trained hundreds of dogs and personally titled 52 individual dogs in 4 different dog sports (Field Trials, Hunt Tests, Schutzhund and Conformation). Marc has devoted the 17 years to training and competing at the highest level in dog sports and continues to keep his name amongst the champions. When he’s not educating the public you can find him training continuously for Schutzhund Trials with his female German Shepherd “Aspen” and Confirmation Shows with his male American Bulldog “Bear.” At 5.5yrs old Aspen a.k.a Erika Zamat (AKC Registered Name) is now 14 times schutzhund III, 12 times at regional or national levels, an amazing accomplishment for a female. Bear a.k.a CH Powerhouse’s Silver Tip (NKC Registered Name) was second place for NKC 2008 American Bulldog of the Year. In Janruary of 2009 Bear earned his Schutzhund 1. He also won High Tracking, High Obedience, High Protection, and High in Trial.
